About
I have had a passion for understanding human suffering and healing practices since my adolescence. I grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from Boston College in 1998 with a degree in psychology and theology.
Upon graduating, I volunteered for the Jesuit Volunteer Core as a case manager serving inner-city families in Brooklyn, NY. It was that experience where I witnessed firsthand the impact of trauma on one’s sense of identity, safety, belonging, self-worth, and his/her/their capacity to regulate emotion, learn, and grow. Despite my clients’ needs for survival being challenged on a daily basis, I was moved by the human yearning and need for connection above all things, and the presence of courage and resiliency amidst their tremendous suffering. I moved to Texas and attended the University of Texas in Austin where I obtained my Masters in Social Work degree in 2001. With my interest in trauma, I was drawn to Veterans, specifically combat Veterans, and worked initially as an intern at the Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio, TX and later full-time at the VA outpatient clinic in McAllen, TX.
Having moved back to Boston area in 2003, I then focused my career on mental health, working on a medical psychiatric unit at a community hospital and eventually the affiliated outpatient mental health clinic. I have worked in private practice in some capacity since 2006, eventually opening my full-time practice in Winchester, MA in June, 2018.
My passion for learning about trauma continues. In 2010, I completed the Level 1 certificate program for Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. In 2014, I completed Level 1 training in EMDR and am currently working towards certification through regular group and individual consultation. I have a strong interest in ego state therapy and Internal Family Systems and use these modalities in conjunction with Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR.
